Fattening Cage

The fattening phase starts as the piglets leave the weaning phase, at between 9 and 14 weeks, and ends when the pigs are sent to slaughter when they reach 85-170 kg. The main objective of farmers in this phase is to achieve a good feed/kg of meat conversion rate, given that the cost of feed in this phase is the main production cost.

It is paramount to achieve the optimal rate of growth and limit feed wastage to the minimum. Hygiene and disinfection of the facilities is another of the challenges in this phase, since maintaining the ideal conditions ensures proper health standards and prevents production and financial losses.
